About - Amaury Diaz Serrano
My name is Amaury Diaz-Serrano I’m a professional car designer. When I’m not designing cars I’m building prototypes or all sorts.
Every single image on this website no matter how elaborate, is based on a photograph of a handmade cardboard car. There are no drawings, cgi or math models. All of these models started from a flat piece of cardboard. This is my own technique it’s not taught in any school, nor is it an industry standard. It’s something I developed for fun, to keep me sane during the long cold Michigan winters. A static model can take anywhere from two weeks to four months depending on design and finishes.
Some of my kinetic toy prototype models have taken from a few months to a few years. I’ve named my prototype Jigxocars, because they’re designed and engineered out of many modular parts, like a jigsaw puzzle.
I grew up in Puerto Rico, I am a graduate of Art Center College of Design with a degree in transportation design.
After graduation I moved to Michigan to work for the car industry. This is where I have stayed for the last 30 years, with a 5 year stint in florida designing yachts. In the auto industry I have been fortunate enough to have worked on many cool projects - from production cars and trucks, concept cars and toys.
While I’ve enjoyed my work, I haven’t enjoyed the weather. Winters are long and cold. This art form was born out of necessity. Simply put, it was something to do. So you’re looking at my winter collections lines from 1998 to the present.
